FEW OPPORTUNITIES TO BLUFF
Bluffing is an important part of any successful poker playerâs arsenal of skills. It is also something of an art. Equally, it is something that can be easily explained but something that cannot equally easily be put into successful practice. Being able to bluff properly and successfully requires a multitude of skills, as well as the ability to recognize the proper and correct opportunities in which to do this. It is much easier to bluff in real-world casino poker rooms or card rooms, precisely because this is the real world and there you can actually see your opponent. Because you are able to see your opponent, many times you can pick up on tells, just like those we discussed earlier, and those that you will learn as you continue to play and gain more expertise. Successful bluffing, therefore, requires a combination of skills, opportunities, table image, and presence, as well as your ability to be able to read your opponents and recognize their tendencies as well as tells, if any. Just about none of this is possible in cyberspace. Although it is still possible to bluff in cyberspace, many of the principles used in real-world casino poker rooms or card rooms that allow players to successfully bluff on numerous occasions, and thereby add a substantial portion to their profitability portfolio as a result, is not equally as successful in Internet poker games. This is primarily due to the difference between how poker is played in the real world as opposed to how poker is played in cyberspace. Although there are many such differences, the most important differences between cyberspace poker games and real-world poker games are:
⢠Real-world poker games are more about playing your opponents, and less about playing your cards.
⢠Cyberspace poker games are more about playing the cards, and less about playing your opponents.
